Bio
Dr. Dustin Costescu is an Academic Generalist, Family Planning Specialist in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at McMaster University. Dr. Costescu completed his Baccalaureate of Science at the University of Guelph, his Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Western Ontario, and his Obstetrics and Gynaecology Residency at McMaster University. Dr. Costescu also completed a Fellowship in Contraception Advice Research and Education from Queen’s University.
Clinical, Educational and Administrative Work
Dr. Costescu’s clinical practice focuses in contraceptive care, family planning, colposcopy, and sexual medicine, in addition to general OB/GYN complaints. Dr. Costescu teaches medical students, residents, and allied health professionals in many of these areas, and is an invited lecturer locally, nationally, and internationally as a Family Planning Expert. Dr. Costescu is the current Continuing Education Director for the department.
Research Interests
Dr. Costescu’s research focuses on Contraception and Family Planning. Currently, the following areas are being investigated:
- Family Planning Need and Contraceptive Use in Special Populations
- Contraceptive Decision-Making
- Qualitative Experiences of Unintended Pregnancy and Abortion, both for women and men involved in the pregnancy
- Optimizing Contraceptive Care
