As we begin to thaw ourselves out from the incredibly cold winter we have experienced this year, we can take the opportunity to pause and reflect on the many accomplishments of our faculty, trainees and our staff.
We are continuing to increase our impact in the international research community in women’s health (please refer to the ‘Research News’ section of the Ob/Gyn Connection).
Our selection process for the best and the brightest incoming residents was very successful and we look forward to welcoming our newest cohort of trainees in July (list of new residents under Postgraduate News).
My very best wishes to everyone for a safe, happy and prosperous New Year!
My goal, as always, continues to be to work to elevate our Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at McMaster University to among the leading academic programs in Canada.
To accomplish this goal it is my opinion that our manpower strategy for all fully affiliated sites should be to seek out the best trained candidates who are committed to excellence in achieving our academic mission. This mission includes excellence in research, the provision of clinical care and in education. To be a truly successful department, we must achieve success in all of these arenas. To advance our mission and to achieve excellence we need to cultivate and encourage the next generation of academic trainees to develop skills beyond those we train our residents for community practice. These should be people who may have already demonstrated a commitment to advancing our specialty as exemplary future clinician educators or as clinician scientists who will expand the boundaries of our knowledge in Women’s Health. It is my view that we should endeavor to seek out these individuals for positions in our fully affiliated sites in Hamilton.
